cannot edit role moodle 2.2

I am trying to edit a native moodle role, manager.  When I go in via

Admin|User|Permissions| Define Roles , and then click on the edit icon for the role, I get this result, with no detail showing.image

Why do the permissions not appear? I have also posted this issue in developers and general problems forums with no response. This happens for any role that I try to edit.

I can't explain what is happening here, I appears that the page ends after the 'Hide advanced' button so you don't even get the filter textbox.

I've altered the subject of this thread slightly so others get a better idea of what is happening and may jump in to help smile
