We are experiencing the exact same behavior since upgrading to Moodle 2.4.  The options were working properly prior to our upgrade, when we were running 2.2

Hi,

I am having a similar issue trying to create a pop-up page for a file resource in Moodle 2.4; it instead creates a separate pop-up to a window that describes the resource with a link to the pop-up page for the file at the bottom of the description.  So one gets two pop-ups instead of just one, not what I want.  I happen to also have an install of Moodle 2.4+ and the problem doesn't happen in that Moodle, it has been resolved.  So, you might encourage your admin to upgrade to 2.4+ to see if that solves this problem for you.

Hi Dan, I'm having the same issue after upgrading to 2.4.

You mention it is resolved in 2.4+, but can you confirm it is solved in the recent Stable 2.4.1 release?

Tnx, Marco

Hi Marco,

I just setup 2.4.1 and the problem is solved in that version.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for confirming. I've also upgraded to 2.4.1 and found that it's solved, but forgot to mention it here.

Thanks!

Marco

Hi All,

I was experiencing the same problems that have been described in this discussion, and thought upgrading to 2.4.1 solved it.  And, it sort of did, because the URLs on my site that I tested were working.

However, I'm noticing that most of the new URLs that we add still have the intermediate page that reads "click ___link to open resource".  Here are the results of some testing I've done, creating URL resources with the Display set to Automatic.

All of these links DO NOT work:

http://www.moodle.org

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/09/books/review/reasons-to-re-joyce.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0&pagewanted=print

http://www.poets.org/viewmedia.php/prmMID/16424

http://www.google.com/about/datacenters/gallery/#/

http://www.bc.edu

http://php.net/sites.php   (FWIW, I noticed that links to PHP pages don't display the standard URL icon.  Rather, they display a gear icon?!?)

The following links work:

http://beginnersinvest.about.com/od/financialratio

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/access-help/create-a-simple-report-HA001230739.aspx#BMusingreportwizard

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/access-help/create-a-grouped-or-summary-report-HA010006894.aspx?CTT=3

We are running Moodle 2.4.1 (Build: 20130114).

Honestly, I can't make heads or tails of this.  It seems so random.  I'm inclined to upgrade to the latest build of 2.4.1+ but everyone else said that 2.4.1 solved their problems.

Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

Joe

Hi All,

I upgraded our site to Moodle 2.4.1+ (Build: 20130214) in the hopes that it might correct this problem, but it did not.

Am I missing something obvious?  Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can troubleshoot this?  How is Moodle deciding which links show up with this intermediate click-through page?

Thanks
Joe

Any update on this Joe?

Have you thought of posting a tracker item.

I can find this: https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-31015 that claims to be fixed, and is NOT quite the same.

Our case:  Moodle 2.4.3+ (Build: 20130405)

Works: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_DNS_record_types and a lot of wikipedia

No work: http://gpg4win.org/ - intermediate page

Inconsistent and unpredicatable behaviour with URL resource.  Cannot find a reason.
