How to Add a Link to URL

How to Add a Link to URL

I just installed Moodle 2.02 and am trying to add a link to a URL in one of the course blocks. In the 'add a resource' dropdown menu in edit mode, I selected 'URL'. Then, after filling out the name and description of the site I want to link to, I click the 'choose a link' button and get the following message in the file picker popup box:

Sorry, none of your current repositories can return external files.

I've searched the forum here and on Google, but can find no solution. Can someone help?

Thanks.

I can see the same error message only when I am accessing the site behind the firewall. Seems to me you are being blocked by the firewall. If your Moodle server is installed outside of your firewall, then try an alternative method to connect to your Moodle sever.

From http://docs.moodle.org/20/en/URL_module_settings

"The "Choose a link" button takes them to the file picker where they can choose URLs from online areas such as youtube, Box.net, Picasa, Merlot etc, depending on what admin has allowed. "

I'm guessing that you have no docs in your file picker that have links? Can you just paste the URL in the external URL box?

Correction!

(What was I thinking?) You can turn on repositories that link to respositories like Flickr, Google Docs, Youtube etc. And that will remove the message.

Site admin > plugins > repositories >manage repositories

http://docs.moodle.org/20/en/Managing_repositories

That did it! Once I turned on those repositories, I was able to access them through the pop up box.

Thanks Ben and Tony!
