How to enable "Anonymous Login", with Moodle 2.2.2+ ?
I am running Moodle on Windows on my local PC, and another Moodle instance at MDL.com.
there is the instruction for Moodle 2.x,
a)Allow anonymous access:
b)Go to the course homepage
c)Locate Settings block > Course administration area
d)Click Edit settings link
e)Change Allow Anonymous access to Yes
I don´t find this in my course settings, on both instances. Of course there is a guest login option.
I understand that "guest login" is for registered students to allow them to have read-only to courses for which they are not subscribed.
So far, I did
a) Uncheck the option “Force users to login, forcelogin” ( i.e. ”[ ]” ) at “Settings / Site Administration / Security / Site policies”.
b)Enter the course.
b1) Add the method “Guest access” at “Settings / Course administration / Users / Enrolment methods”.
b2) Set “Allow guest access” to “Yes” at “Settings / Course administration / Edit settings / Guest access”, and provide a password.
but this does not help me to allow anonymous access.
There is a guest login button, but if I click on it as unregistered user, the username guest is displayed in the username field, and I am asked to enter a password..
(a) is necessary, anyhow, of course for anonymous login, if the anonymous user shall select free courses in a menu.
Of course I don´t created a user with the name "guest",
and self-subscription for a course is denied.
So that after all, "everybody" ( but not Google, I denied by unchecking “Open to Google, opentogoogle” ( i.e. ”[ ]” ) at “Settings / Site Administration / Security / Site policies” ) should be able to visit my demo course.
Any help is appreciated.
I think on that site they have simply changed the term "guest access" to say "anonymous access" You don't have to be a registered student to have guest or anonymous access. You do need to check the bx "auto log in guests" in Settings>Site administration>users>permissions>user policies
"You do need to check the bx "auto log in guests" in Settings>Site administration>users>permissions>user policies"
now it works .
We're using NTLM so when a student or staff members opens Moodle from school, it automatically logs them into My Moodle using our active directory accounts. That is working as it should but we did encounter a problem with guest access after upgrading to 2.2. Parents can no longer browse to site - they are sent to a login screen. This is different behavior from 1.9. I followed your instructions and checked the box next to 'Auto login guests' but that broke our NTLM and students/staff had to manually login to Moodle. I posted my question on the User Authentication forum but no responses yet. Any ideas?
We found the answer in MDL-32688. Basically we needed to stop guest access to My Moodle so the auto login as guest feature would work for guests but not for our students and staff who are logged in through NTLM and sent to My Moodle.
