I've been looking through pages on the documentation and came across this one which has references to 1.9 and Flash 7, quite an old version. I don't know much about audio/bit rates/security settings etc so I wondered if anyone could advise as to which bits of this are out of date/could be improved for 2? thanks
The most important change is that Flash player 9 is no longer limited and can play audio files with the maximum MP3 bit rate, that is 320 kbps.
thanks I have just changed that - is that the only main thing then?
Actually, I would simplify a bit some concepts.
Eventhough, 11.025, 22.050 and 44.100 kHz are acceptable sample rates, I would recommend using only 44.100 kHz (for both, music and speech recordings). The reason is that using a lower sampling rate will have very little effect on the final mp3 file size (bit rates have a bigger impact) but quality will decrease noticeably.
Concerning bit rates, while Flash player is not limited anymore, I would recommend using only one of the following:
-- 96 kbps for speech audio files (if file size is critical, 64 kbps could still be acceptable), as this will avoid having very low quality recordings.
-- 128 kbps for music (but not higher than that, as most people cannot differenciate between a 128 kbps file and a higher one).
I would also recommend to always encode using "Joint stereo" (not "Stereo"), as this will either improve quality or reduce filesize.
About Flash player security, here are some current articles:
Finally, I think I would also add a link to the best MP3 encoder :
Can't help I am afraid Nellie.
- Table borders: unresolved known bug: http://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-27774 work aroun posted there may work (please vote!!)
- MP3 player. I'm assuming you have enabled the filters and you are posting as a teacher, and this is a recent version or Moodle, and that the MP3 is well formed.
Check out this forum: https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=193172 and this: https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=194684
May or may not help.
The player disappears and only the upload and link stay. How do I get the player to stay when I insert/save or update the page?
I think I saw this a couple of years ago with another user - they were using Firefox but I presume yours doesn't work on any browser? Do you actually get the player when you save in something other than a forum? For instance in a block or a topic summary? (just trying a process of elimination)
Also... your player doesn't look like my player - do you have a custom mp3 player on your Moodle rather than the default one?
Yes, agree. That looks non-standard to me. Do you have this behaviour with a standard theme?
I tried a number of my Moodle sites (differening themes from Moodle 2.2.1, 2.2.3, and 2.3) on various computers with various browsers and I still can't get the player to go beyond the insert. I see it until I insert and that's it. The recorder disappears and only the link of the recording remains.
Just to confirm - can you try adding an mp3 here on this forum -does it work as it should?
Can you tell me how the filters look here?
How do I get a custom mp3 player on the Moodle?
I think I have had the same problem, though I am not 100 percent sure if the player were displayed when I added a file. But the result were that I got no player on my site when I add media files using the editor. What happens if you add a mp3 file as a file resource?
My webserver administrator solved the problem. He told me what was wrong, but unfortunately I can not remember what it was, maybe something about how Moodle handled the path to the files.
The mp3 player works fine on all my other Moodle websites for Moodle 2.2.1 and for Moodle 2.3 and they're all on the same server. I don't think the problem is the server. I believe the problem is the theme and how I twitted it. I will have to either change the theme or upgrade to 2.3 and hope for the best.
(Sorry for the delay, I forgot about this) I can insert media in a forum post, select an MP3, accept all the defaults and it works perfectly.
AFAIK I have no special players chosen or anything. It just works. And I know this is no help to oyu in figuring out what the problem is.
I guess you know me. I can view the player just fine on my 2.3 Moodle but not on the 2.2.1. Is there a known bug there?
I take it back, no bug in 2.2.1. It's working in all my other Moodles. So, it's down to one particular Moodle site that is problematic. I need to see what's going on in my plesk for this one. Any experts in the house?
