I've just knocked up a quick sketch of an idea for a block in Moodle. The idea is that users don't know when they're normally online and they don't when other users are either, so it's difficult to schedule a good time for groups to meet up for synchronous activities.
What I have here is a heatmap that simply pulls the Moodle log data for the course and creates a grid for days of the week by times of the day. The darker the colour, the more active users are at that time and day of the week. This heatmap is general for all users on the course so it doesn't reveal individuals' activities, thereby preserving their personal privacy and making it useless for "creepy behaviour".
I guess we could add an option to display users' own online activity habits. It could be useful for planning study schedules or whatever.
Do you think this could be useful?
What could make it more useful?
How would you change it?
