I had quite a political problem occur last week with an institution that has grown to have four independent Moodle installs, with two providers and three Moodle versions. There is one standout install which features regular updates, "Escalator is out today, use the stairs" and a nice sense of community. So an understandable reluctance there to merge the four Moodles into one with a loss of the local flavour. I was trying to figure out if there was an easy way to do something like this: have each student with a field for HomeCampus and show front page accordingly. Google got me nothing.
Then a little serendipity: over the weekend I was reading Alex Büchner's "Moodle 2 Administration" book. Lo and behold, p186 "Replacing the front page", there may be a way to do this. (This is a cool, remarkably readable and comprehensive book!!)
$CFG->customfrontpageinclude . . .
This term got me to http://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-28163, a feature I found was not written up anywhere.
I hacked the Moodle docs here (can someone please fix them?) to mention this.
My question: could this be coded so that each campus has it's own course, and news items from the course be displayed on the front page depending on which campus the student is from when they log in?
ie a displayed home page dependent on information from the student information. Anyone done anything like this? (Anyone used this feature anywhere?)
