I would like to get a response from all those in the Moodle community that serve as both the administrator for their moodle system and server and as a teacher / course developer in moodle.
Before I ask my question I need to provide some background. I work as a trainer for a small company of about 200 that has started using moodle for employee training. Recently our management has been considering opening up our moodle instance to our client network of about 2500 so that we can do client training.
I have used moodle for several years now as both a casual user and as a quasi admin in that I have been responsible for parts of moodle but not all of it (this includes server administration). My VP has recommended to the executive management that I be promoted and serve as our moodle administrator and they have agreed but have left the decision up to me. I am both excited and a little intimidated by this.
I have a technical background and as I said have used moodle for several years so I am comfortable with this but I also love training and developing courses so I am in a quandary as to what to do.
My question is this; how much time do you spend per week administering the server and moodle and how much are you able to teach and develop courses? I would like to present my VP with a proposed breakdown of my hours so that I can serve as the admin but also teach and develop a little as well.
I appreciate all comments on this. Thanks.
