Course completion status block does not show that the activity has been completed

Hi,

I uploaded a pdf file in a course of my moodle site.

Although a student viewed the PDF (and there is a checkbox that shows that the activity has been completed), the course completion status block does not show that the activity has been completed. Why is this? Please let me know how to show  that the activity has been complete.
