Should you give this advice?

The 1.4 stable branch is continually being patched with new bug fixes since the last release, but no new features. It is a usually a good choice for a new server.

When my upgrade with our modified version of Dec 23 2004 failed, I started with a fresh copy of Moodle (feb 23) after I read this advice. (the words Bug fixes did it for me..)

I took the fresh copy of Feb 23 2005, then attached my patches, added some orphan modules and ended up with a non functioning LDAP.

After checking all my changes and additions, and comparing it with our old Moodle-backup and the release of Dec 23, I started to compare my version of Feb 23 with the latest version of today: In the lib of the LDAP there is a small addition.. (hoping that LDAP lib does not interfere with other processes I replaced the Feb 23 /ldap/lib.php with the March 3 /ldap/lib.php)

Can one of the CVS guards comment on this?

(Explain me how changes are inserted normally: one by one or as a set?)
(Or: is it possible that a nightly takes a snapshot halfway a cvs update?)
