Im sure I have read somewhere that it is not possible to enrol a system cohort synch at category level so that users are enrolled within all the categories courses. Is this correct?
I know we can change the system cohorts to category cohorts but we require certain cohorts to be enrolled within different categories. Also, at the end of the academic year we can use the bulk user actions and filter cohort id's to remove certain users from Moodle.

No, still not found a solution for this . Here is an example of current setup for our categories, sub-categories and courses:
Category (Top) - Forestry
Sub-Category - National Certificate in Forestry
Course (1) - Maintenance of the Chainsaw
Course (2) - Woodland Skills
We have scrapped the idea of having a system cohort enrolled at category because the fuctionality is not there.
We want to create cohorts at Sub-category level and add the students from uploading CSV file with the ID of the cohorts, which we can. But, the student's are not enrolled within the courses below these sub categories.
We don't want to manually add the cohorts to every course within the sub-categories...pretty pointless.

Hi,
It appears that cohorts cannot be used to enrol users into category courses in the manner you would like.
You can however achieve the effect by using the metcourse block, ie set up a meta-course (in the category), link the meta-course to the other courses in the category, enrol students in the meta-course and they will be enrolled in all of the linked courses.

We did look at Metacourses a while back but thought it would be a little heavy on administration setting them up. Though, once setup up this could actually be a benefit in the long run.
