Dear All,
forgive me if this is an insufferably naive question.
I would like to create questions which require the input and evaluation of at least two answers.
Essentially, questions where two answers are required by the participant.
Is this possible in Moodle?
Regards,
Andrew
You could use the MULTIPLE CHOICE question type with the MULTIPLE ANSWERS option.

Joseph
Thanks Joseph.
But is there a way other than multiple choice? Ideally, I'd like students to
encounter two text fields through which they could input each answer.
Regards,
Andrew
Please provide a "real-world" example.
Joseph
Here you are:
------------------------
The mean of a normal probablity distribution is 500 and the standard deviation is 10.
Question: About 95% of the observations lie between which two values?
Solution: 480 and 520 (mean-2*standard deviation, mean+2*standard deviation)
------------------------
I suggest using the Cloze question type. On Moodle 1.9, that question would look something like (see attached screenshot).
Hope that is what you wanted,
Joseph
That looks great Joseph. Thanks very much for your invaluable input.
Out of interest, does moodle offer any additional question types/adaptations
to accommodate such questions?
Regards,
Andrew
Andrew "does moodle offer any additional question types/adaptations

Not that I know of.
Joseph
OK, thanks again Joseph.
I teach Business Statistics using Moodle. I have been converting exam questions to the "Calculated multichoice" form in Moodle. I really like this format. It's a little tricky using this format, but seems to be a good compromise between forcing very specific response from students, and providing a little direction. You might want to look into it. Good luck.
Look at my this picture of my similar question. This is a calculated multichoice question. With this approach, every student will have some randomly generated different (wrong) choices. This is one way to give an exam online. It's not perfect, but not bad.
Hi Rick,
You could also used 2 ( or more) regular calculated questions with synchronized data.
The synchronized option has some additional requirements:
the number of dataset items need to be the same for each question
and the questions should be created in the same category.
Pierre
P.S. multichoice calculated can also be synchronized which give you more flexibility in the choices .
Yes, I actually do this for descriptive statistics. I provide a randomly generated dataset, then synchronize this with around 6 to 8 questions asking for the mean, mode, standard deviation, etc.
It takes a little while to set this up (and figure it out), but one ends up with a set of questions that are similar, yet unique for every student.
By the way, products like Blackboard do not come close to this type of functionality provided by Moodle.
Your last comments are the main reason to my contribution to Moodle .
