For a Moodle installation that has over 75000 users we have a course that has 20 separate SCORM modules each in a different language. Our users have to do one of the SCORM modules in their selected language.
We want to be able to download a xls gradebook export for this course but the processing is running a huge amount of time (over 10 minutes) and eventually failes.
I would really appreciate some suggestions of speeding up the export process, Does anybody know of a good alternative?
With 75k users yours is a major operation!
I have no specific experience with the gradebook. Your general options are:
a) Get the SQL protocol for this query and try to isolate the slow queries. Ideally at a time where nobody else is on-line. Likely that you have to increase some time-out.
You didn't mention the exact version of Moodle you use, neither whether on MySQL or PostgreSQL. May be the developers have optimized those places in the meantime.
b) Duplicate the site on a spare server and run such slow administration tasks there. The caveat is that duplicating itself is an intensive operation for the original server. Depending on the dead-lines in the course, a nightly copy might be sufficient.
