I'm a moodle 2.0 newbie. I have found so far that moodle is really powerful but it is really difficult to do a lot of what should be very simple things.
Sitewide I want to:
Upload a .pdf in the repository. I can't. .pdf seems to not be supported.
Browse all of my .pdf's or files in the repository and replace or make corrections (replace a file but not change the name or path). why not?
Serve those .pdf files to my students embded in lessons so that they can see them, edit them, and save them to their local machines.
Not allow the .pdfs to be linked to without moodle authentication.
See the absolute paths to my files and be able to test that a backup completed correctly and has all of my files and they are not corrupt.
Be able to back up and restore one or more files.
Right now I am unable to use the repository so I use ftp and a simple upload to a directory which is unsecure and the following example code:
<embed src="http://www.hipaatraininginstitute.com/moodle/pdffiles/NOTICE_OF_PRIVACY_PRACTICES.pdf#toolbar=1&navpanes=1&scrollbar=1" quality="low" height="800" width="600" />
This works well but is totally unsecure. How do I do this and prevent outside people from linking, guessing paths or getting to my files?
I have a read a lot of discussion surrounding these topics but I have not found a solution that provides security.
Thank you for your help!
