KS3 Sub Levels

Hi there,

Hope you can help me clarify something. Not sure how flexible the Grades section actually is, but I am trying to create a grading system based on the UK Key Stage 3 Sub Levels. Which in my school range from 3c, 3b, 3a, 4c, 4b... all the way up to 8a. Each level has a point value: 4a is 29, 7a is 47 etc. But the second bit proabably isn't that important.

Are custom scales the only way of capturing these grades? The only issue is that the mean % Moodle assigns to these scales can be a little misleading. Year groups you can only reach between a certain band of these grades, so would I need to group the achievable grades together in bands so (e.g. 3a - 6a for ear 9) and assign that band to the relevant subject year?

Or is there a better way? Students don't really go off % grades in school so seeing them on graded assignments on moodle might be a little off-putting.

Anyway, all help welcome...

Many thanks
