The number of random questions required is more than are still available in the category

Hi,

We had a problem on a question in a quiz: "The number of random questions required is more than are still available in the category".

The category from which the question was retrieved had 108 questions. It was only required 1 question to be retrieved. The student said that the random question was first presented properly, but then, after a page refresh, the error message appeared. We had 212 students attending the quiz.

Did this happen before to anyone? Moodle 1.9.13.

Thanks,
susana

After having this problem we had another (bigger?) problem: when trying to regrade the quizz, most of the students lost its final grade for that question (ex:--/1.22)...

I've had this happen before but located the issue (user error). When you are looking at your question bank, check to see if you have the Display questions from sub-categories too checked. You could have 108 questions in the top-level category but zero in the sub-category you selected to add random questions from.

Another possibility is a teacher in the course could have been moving questions around while the quiz was in progress.

Happy Moodle Logooodling!
