Moodle 1.9: average calculation with one eliminatory value?

Moodle 1.9: average calculation with one eliminatory value?

Hello,

I cannot see how to achieve the following grade calculation...  Any brilliant ideas would be appreciated!

I have 4 assignments, of which the first three are optional, and the 4th is compulsory. Students' final grade is the simple average of all the assignments they actually attempt, BUT, if they do not do the 4th one, they get zero, no matter how many of the others they have done... So, a 0 for assignment 4 cancels all other grades, if you like.

I can of course do this manually, but I have over 100 students, and it's a bit fastidious.

Thanks for your help!

Colin

I'm hearing you but cannot concieve of a workable solution using Moodle's gradebook.

Colin,

Would it work to use a semi-automated system. Agregate all non-empty grades. Then manually search for those students that did not attempt the fourth assignment, and manually override with a zero for those students?

Hi Sharon,

Indeed, I could do it that way. I was hoping there would be some flashy way of getting Moodle to do it for me!

Cheers, Colin
