I'm wondering if anyone has tried developing a means of posting to a social forum from an Email address.
In our context it would be helpful to be able to capture Email exchanges.

This is one of those questions that comes up every so often
An email 'gateway' for a forum would be *very* difficult to do. Not technically particularly, but to make it secure. How would you guard against spam and even make sure you know who is posting. With mail it is trivial to spoof your identity.

This is coming in Moodle 1.6. We have a new email gateway already in Moodle 1.5 and a quite secure scheme for allowing replies to emails sent from forums (still to be implemented fully). It works by encoding stuff into the reply address (different for each recipient).
That sounds great. Obviously there are security issues but if these can be overcome then for our implementation this would be a really useful function.
