I have created a simple jmatch quiz matching pics with words and when I view it in the web browser of hot pot it works great and I can view the pics, but when I add it to my moodle course the quiz works but it doesnt show the pics I just get a X instead of the pic.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi Mike,

> What am I doing wrong?

There are a number of possible reasons why the images are not displaying.

  • have you uploaded the image files to the "Files" area of your Moodle course?
If NO, upload the images and Force-Refresh the browser view of the JMatch viewed through Moodle
  • do the image file names have spaces in them?
If YES, please remove the space from the files names and the <img src="file name with spaces.jpg"> tags in your JMatch
  • are the image files in Moodle accessible to your browser?
To check this, navigate to the folder containing the images within the "Files" area of you course, and click on the link to one of the images used in the JMatch. Make a note of the URL of the image, because you will need it in the next step (see below)
  • are the image files in the correct sub-folder in the "Files" area of your Moodle course?
When viewing the JMatch via Moodle with your browser, use the browser's "View page source" menu item to show the source HTML for the page, locate the URL for one of the images, and check it is the same as the URL you found in the previous step

By the way ...

  • are we talking about Moodle 1.9 or Moodle 2.x?
  • are you using the HotPot module or the QuizPort module?

  • Thank you for the quick response!
  • have you uploaded the image files to the "Files" area of your Moodle course? I uploaded the jpg files into my private files(is this the same area?) I cannot find a area called "files".  There is a drop down box in each unit/week of my course to add files(is this what you are talking about?)
If NO, upload the images and Force-Refresh the browser view of the JMatch viewed through Moodle
  • do the image file names have spaces in them?
If YES, please remove the space from the files names and the <img src="file name with spaces.jpg"> tags in your JMatch
  • there are no spaces I left it as untitled.jpg
  • are the image files in Moodle accessible to your browser?
To check this, navigate to the folder containing the images within the "Files" area of you course, and click on the link to one of the images used in the JMatch. Make a note of the URL of the image, because you will need it in the next step (see below)
  • not sure have not tried this
  • are the image files in the correct sub-folder in the "Files" area of your Moodle course?
When viewing the JMatch via Moodle with your browser, use the browser's "View page source" menu item to show the source HTML for the page, locate the URL for one of the images, and check it is the same as the URL you found in the previous step
  • not sure-I can view them if I save them as a web page in hot potatoes and then view in browser
  • have you tried uploading the JMatch and images on my test server?
If NO, you can access the server here:
  • I have not tried this-I will try today-thanks

By the way ...

  • are we talking about Moodle 1.9 or Moodle 2.x?
  • not sure-how can I figure this out?
  • are you using the HotPot module or the QuizPort module?
  • I had our school district admin. activate our hot pot module and that is what I am using

Most of my earlier post was assuming you were using Moodle 1.9, but if you have a "Private files area@, then you are probably using Moodle 2.x with HotPot module. I will give more ideas about that tomorrow. Gordon

I just looked at your course-the layout is completely different from mine so I am using 2.0.

I will wait for your replies

Sincerely-thank you

OK, Moodle 2.x. It is important to say that when you report an issue.

Please upload your quiz and images to my Moodle 2.x site so we can look at it together:

I uploaded the quiz to your course-it is in the Jmatch testing unit/area and it is called anatomy quiz.  It is a sample quiz with one pic and one matching word called pectoralis.  I still get the X in place of the pic.

Here is what I did to upload:

1-zipped up the quiz and pic

2-saved the zip folder to the "private files"

3-unzipped the folder and saved the contents to "private files"

4-added the quiz to the "hot pot" activity drop down box in our Jmatch testing unit/area

Thank you for helping with this!

Gordon also my privates files area is hidden on the left side of the screen as opposed to your 2.x course where it is on the right side of your course screen.  I am just explaining this to you to see if we are using the same version of moodle.  I believe I am using a 2.0 version.

Are there different 2.0 versions?

Either way the quiz doesnt work in either version?

Thanks for uploading the files to my testing server.

You have to put the image files into the HotPot's "source file" file area as well. As far as Moodle is concerned the files in your "Private files" file area and the files in each HotPot's "source file" file area are different.

If you add the image file into the HotPot's "source file" file area you should then see it in the HotPot activity.

regards
Gordon
