My main glossary is allowing students to make entries. I though that the main glossary only teachers could add. We are using Moodle 1.99 I think. Am I missing something please? Could there be something in our site settings that has changed this?
Can anyone give me any ideas on where to look or what to do.

Students can add entries to Main glossaries as well as Secondary glossaries. If you do not want them to add entries, just remove this capability from the Override permissions for students in that Glossary.
