Migrating Cohorts

On the cohorts screen there is a warning that removing someone from a cohort can cause user to be unenrolled from courses, to lose grades, history, submissions, tracking, etc.

We have 2 cohorts: let's call them Undergraduates and Graduates.  Graduates have access to 100% of all courses and areas.  Undergraduates have limited access (i.e. this cohort is only enrolled in certain courses.)

When a user graduates, we have two options:

1. The logical option is to a) add them to the Graduates cohort and then b) remove them from the Undergraduates cohort.

2. Add them to the Graduates cohort (and leave them also in their original cohort, Undergraduates.)

(1) is the obvious and logical thing to do.

However, given the stern warning about removing a user from a cohort, I'm wondering if data loss will occur.  Because both cohorts are enrolled in a course, when the user is added to the 2nd synced cohort, but removed from the 1st synced cohort, will they lose all grades, etc.?  Is it safer to leave everyone in both cohorts?
