I have created a lesson with content pages and then short answer questions.  Some students have answered these short answers correctly but have added an "S" or misspelled the word.  I would like to go in and override the individual question grade.  Is this possible in a lesson grading situation?  I'm finding from researching that either no one has had to address this or it is not possible. 

Our school is using Moodle 2.1.

No,  not  in a short answer.  You could regrade an essay.  Sounds as if your are grading each answer anyway. If you used a quiz instead of a lesson, you could regrade individual answers given by each student.
