I am trying to figure out the TeX notation for something like this, but it seems that I am not putting the backslashes in the right spot (maybe??).

I tried this:

dollar dollar \frac{\sqrt{48}} {\sqrt{{3}} = \frac{\sqrt{3}\sqrt{16}} {\sqrt{{3}}\dollar dollar

But that gives this:

$$ \frac{\sqrt{48}} {\sqrt{{3}} = \frac{\sqrt{3}\sqrt{16}} {\sqrt{{3}}\$$

The fraction was complete, so why does it put the equal sign in the denominator? How do I move it up to the right?

Thanks!
