Adding Powerpoint Web Pages (Moodle 2.0)

As many Moodlers know, pre-MSOffice 2011 Powerpoint has the option of saving its files in easy-to-view web page format. From inside Powerpoint: File>Save As (Web Pages).

The resultant file comprised a single (hub) html file, and an accompanying folder of html slide pages with associated images.

Before using Moodle, I used to upload the html file and the folder of content next to it, to my web site, and link on the site pages to the 'hub' html file. On clicking the link to the html file, a window would pop up to display the powerpoint presentation for the student, and the only software they would need was the web browser they were using. Cool. smile

So here's the question: if I want to do this now, how do I upload the html file with its accompanying folder of content, using Moodle's 'Add a resource' function? That function seems only to allow single, unlinked files, it will not accept a whole folder of content.

I could zip the html file and its accompanying folder, upload the zipped file, unzip it (?) and then add the html file as the 'Recource' file, but I can't see a way of unzipping files once they've been uploaded to Moodle. Once things are uploaded, Moodle seems to change the file's name and it gets lost in Moodle's labyrinthine structure. To which place has my stuff actually gone?

How can I keep using my html'd Powerpoint presentations?

With many thanks in advance, angry

François.

Hi there - see here - http://ourlearning.co.uk/?p=8

* when you upload a zipped folder to "add a resource>file" there will be a little icon to the right -clicking on it gives you the option to unzip/rename/delete and other choices. Choose the unzip and it will unzip.

Re: Adding Powerpoint Web Pages (Moodle 2.0)

Users of MS Powerpoint 2011 may have noticed that Microsoft have removed the option of saving powerpoint files as html files. The reason for this may be commercial. (See what options MS are proposing instead.)

  • For PC users, there is a separate piece of software which will convert from .ppt to .html, downloadable from here:

http://www.ultrashareware.com/Ultra-PPT-To-HTML-Converter.htm

  • For Mac users (OS X) it's apparently possible to download open source Open Office software and use it's powerpoint equivalent (called 'Impress'), to open a Powerpoint file and save it as html from there.

Hope this helps, until MS see the light.

The 'Our Learning' URL did not work for me, but for other readers here, I found the page I think you mean at this link:
