File System will not Activate (Moodle 2.1)

Hmm. In Manage Repositories, when I select 'Enabled & visible' for File System, if I refresh the page, the selected setting pops itself back to 'Disabled'.

I'm not sure if it's related, but the all the folders I've nested in the repository folder (inside the moodledata folder) have been set to permissions 0777 ...I'm hoping that's correct.

Can a clever person advise as to why the File System settings are behaving like this?

Weird. - The problem seems to have solved itself.

I waited a while after having set the server-side repository directories to 0777 permissions, then repeatedly clicked on the 'Enabled and visible' sub-menu next to File system in Moodle; a settings page came up which I tweaked as appropriate and the 'Enabled and visible' selection seems to have stayed.
