This may be a little late, but it was probably the Word code that was causing your problem. The Moodle html editor does NOT work well with Word content. Use Wordpad or something else, preferably a web page development program, to create your content. Have you noticed the little icon on the editor toolbar with a W on it? That's for cleaning Word code, but even that doesn't always do a good job.
Especially with graphics, I'd suggest you develop the chapter in a real web page editor or else just insert your images & format your text right in the Moodle editor.
