Just read the exciting news that Moodle 2.1 supports the importing of 1.9 courses. This is great because I was really keen for Moodle 2 to be a clean install, not an upgrade. However, I note that it does not support the import of users. In this case, how can users be imported? I want all their profile fields and user images to still exist on 2.1, but everything else I want to be fresh.
Is there any way for this to be done?
Haven't tried this yet, but thought about creating a 1.9 course called 'XFER' and assigning all users of a 1.9 site as students in that course.
No other activites, etc.. Then create a backup of that course to restore to your 2.1 in the Miscellaneous area. That course could be all about making the transition to 2 for users.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't tried the import function yet either, but from what I read in the tracker, it sounds like it doesn't import any users with a course, just the course content. Otherwise, that would have been a nifty solution!

Confirmed!! Like I said, hadn't tried it ... until just now. I can understand, however, how something that seemingly simple, may create some havoc especially when the backup from 1.9 included Admin user.
Am testing using courseconverter.moodleinschools.org.nz now.
They had an online tool. Let's hope they did something 'different'. ;)

SUCCESS! in converting 1.9 to 2.1 WITH users!

Backed up a 1.9.x course that had a SCORM package + two users - one teacher - one student.
AND in using http://www.moodleinschools.org.nz/courseconverter
Restored in http://moodle.tcea.org/1to2conversions/ the .mbz created by the NZ Course Converter … with users. Both the teacher and student accounts show. Appears to function.
