'experience points' (games) for grading in stead of marks?

Hi all,

I am looking for a way to give participants/students a grade that is like the point rewards in games: expercience points or xp's. E.g. a beginner starts with 0 points and the more he does/reades/trains/tests/etc. the more points he gets.

More explanation see this video:

I don't seem to get this done with the current grading options, but maybe someone has a creative way around this?

Wouter, if you're on your own Moodle would it be possible to edit the language files to help reflect it in the gradebook?

Just a thought.  I have seen some sites where they use the Stamp collection module to help with XP accounting, and there are some 3rd party services like Uboost that do similar (though that one is paid).  What about just replacing "gradebook" with "Experience" and the like?

I am also interested in gamifying moodle especially with 2.0 conditional activities that could be used as a mechanism for level unlocking. For further information on this see: Lee Sheldon's "The Multiplayer Classroom: Designing Coursework as a Game (2011)". Also his website http://gamingtheclassroom.wordpress.com/. His syllabus is particularly interesting and it shows the values of the xp as mapped to letter grades: http://gamingtheclassroom.wordpress.com/syllabus/.

It would be great if the user's pic/avatar could have an xp bar connected to the gradebook. And a popup ding with level up graphic animation can be triggered when a student levels up.
