Not 100% sure of exact forum to post this...
We use Moodle 1.9.x, MSSQL 2005, IIS6. User authentication is handled via LDAP and a scheduled task runs each evening to sync with Active Directory. Course creation is handled by the 3rd Party Course Management Block. This allows us to have some flexibility in course structure. Auto enrolment is handled via External DB enrolment. We have a SQL view that constructs the required info from our Timetabling System. Auto enrolment is NOT allowed to auto create courses to prevent extraneous courses being created.
For most of our classes this is sufficient, however some of the junior subjects need all students enrolled in the same course and then the students put into groups. The enrolment is easy. The trouble is the groups. There does not appear to be a mechanism via External DB to add/create groups. It is straightforward, but exceedingly tedious, to add students to groups within the course via assign roles. The search function within assign roles does not appear to be able to search additional profile fields? We can add Home Group info to a profile field but not search the field which would allow us to obtain the students for each group on masse, rather than one by one.
I've seen posts on using upload csv to do group enrolments but this seems to be a massive backwards step (and quite fiddly to get all the data to align). Our aim is to automate as much as possible.
Any thoughts from Gurus or users that have solved this?
