Well Hello

Well Hello

I just came back from Moodle Moot in Edmonton and I am now going to start learning this stuff. So I put up my pic, and what better way to start is to put my hand out to the universe and find out what happens.

I live and breathe on the Sunshine Coast in BC Canada, so if there are any moodlers out there, close or far away, this is my first official hello. I am a teacher in the public education system and am looking for ways to use moodle for a blended classroom environment...I am hoping to make my classroom as appealing as Facebook...haha...is this possible?

Anyways, I was so impressed when I went to the Moodle Moot. I love the interactive and collaborative possibilities. Esp. loved the people I met from all over Canada and the world. Wow.

Cindy:

Welcome to Moodle and the wonderful world of online learning.  I am not near you but have some ideas for you as you begin:

*Class Calendar of Assignments posted in Moodle

*All Homework Assignments (handouts) posted in Moodle

*Before a major test, Chat room for students to ask questions and discuss topics

*Group chat rooms for any of your group projects

These are just some that can get you started.  I caution you that what you do postin Moodle is current and is available to the students.  If the students cannnot get to your information, frustration will arise in the studnets.

Have fun and try things and make adjustments as you go.

Hi Cindy (and anyone else reading this post),

http://scm.moodleace.com
Login as: student
Password: moodle

It's hosted on a Virtual Private Server. I have root access which allows me to
add in feature after feature of mods, blocks and filters created by the
Moodle community. The technical specs of the server are very modest:
512Mb RAM only. At the most 25 concurrent users.
It runs comfortably because I enabled PHP Acceleration, web-page compression (mod_deflate).

ANYWAY If you have time, you can create your own account with your own name and login icon - it's more fun .
When you log in, you'll see other users. This site is live. Yup.
The 3 main courses where there is some form of life (now until end of May,

maybe even in June when the new semester starts):

Desktop Publishing

Information Technology
http://scm.moodleace.com/course/view.php?id=9

Intensive English
http://scm.moodleace.com/course/view.php?id=19

You can ask me anything about the site or about the activities.
Like in "Hey! How did you do that? How can I have the same thing
on my Moodle site?". Sure you can. It helps a lot if you have root
access to your own site. Then you can install mods, blocks and filters
from http://moodle.org/mod/data/view.php?id=6009 to your heart's
content.

Most of the stuff I've put into it are the creation of other talented
Moodlers and developers.

So feel free join in the fray...I mean fun and to poke around the site
and to mingle with the inhabitants of the shire.

Best wishes and regards
