In 1.9 I have used "Link to a file or website" at the end of each topic to automatically jump students back out to the course page at the location of the next topic, much the way section links work. If the student is using the Jump to or next (in 1.9) or the Navigation Buttons plugin (in 1.9 or 2.0), they'll skip over any introductory label text at the beginning of a topic, so this resets them at the end of each topic/week.
I accomplished this by adding a resource "link to a file or website", used the absolute URL of the section (for instance http://mysite.com/course/view.php?id=17#section-3), open in the same window, don't show navigation. When the student clicks "next" on the previous page, this link goes back to the course page, at the location of topic #3. Perfect.
But...In 2.0, adding a "URL" resource in the same manner produces a 404 error (in "pop-up"), embeds the course page within the course page (yikes), or displays a page that says "click [link] to open this resource" (when I select automatic or open display modes). FYI: I created an HTML block using the same URLs for each section to "Jump to a Topic" and they work fine.
I believe what I have done in 1.9 is basically the same process as described here: http://moodle.org/mod/page/view.php?id=7919, but I can't find any equivalent discussion for 2.0.
I'd appreciate any ideas and even alternatives if this approach will no longer work.
