1.9 is recommended?

I have just started studying Moodle, and I am new to this forum.

Our company's engineer has installed Moodle 2.0 on our server, and we are setting up the new Moodle site now. In an e-learning seminar that I attended last week, disturbing information was provided. According to the information, Moodle 2.0 is too slow to run on a production server, and Moodle 1.9 should be installed this year.

Do you recommend 1.9 instead of 2.0?

there are a lot of sites running 2.0 in production - see http://moodle.org for just one example..

Some sites (especially installations on cheap shared host providers) will struggle - but if you have your own server with someone able to tune it correctly you should be ok - if you get stuck drop one of the Moodle Partners a line.

Something is "fast" and something else is "slow" are for people who need simple answers for simple looking questions.

To go beyond:
- read the docs under http://docs.moodle.org/en/Category:Performance
- search for similar postings in this forum, for example

If all these are too technical here is the simple answer: Since you are starting fresh on your own server, version 2 is the way to go. By the time your site takes off and heavily used, the developers have polished the rough edges, your system administrators got a deeper understanding of managing high performance LAMP servers!
