What is a dadgum post in the reports - Statistics?

A teacher responding to a forum, or a students post in a forum should both be counted as a "post".

In a lesson module, a student answers an essay question and that should be counted as a "post". A teacher responds to a student essay and that should be counted as a "post".
In the Assignment activity, A student responds to an online text assignment and that answer to the question posited in the activity should be counted as a post. If a teacher responds back to the students answer, with a comment, that should be counted as a post.
The point is, if we are to measure activity in the course by views and posts, everything that is considered a "post" to the course, ought to be counted. Otherwise, it is very difficult to "administer" the course and understand either student or teacher activity.
This is yet another piece of the puzzle that both Instructure and Brain Honey have solved, that inspire confidence in people who are making decisions about which LMS to use.
I am getting to the point, where it seems like Moodle Statistics must be considered as unimportant. What is it replaced with?
