At the moment I have my high school students self enroll in my courses. What I want to happen is that parents self enroll as well, so they can see their child's work. More to the point, I want the automated OPTION to include parent in any messages I send to the student . I could just leave it to parents to go into their parent account and check their child's work periodically, but I find that many are just too busy to do that. It would be better that they had an email notification whenever an issue arose. I'm using the latest of the Moodle 1.9 versions (ie not yet 2.0) on Windows 7. Not having involved parents directly before I need any help I can get!
There is a parent role in Moodle- here http://docs.moodle.org/en/Parent_role -however; it isn't automated and you cannot bulk create the roles afaik. I am not sure how you could get a message automatically sent when an issue arose, either, but hopefully you will get some other answers today with more suggestions
