I used the soda constructor last year with some classes. I was interested in not only the physics, engineering and control aspects but also the higher-order thinking skills that developed as pupils looked at what they'd got and amended positioning, structure and time sequencing to manufacture some outstanding sodaplay models. After an initial familiarisation they set objectives for their model and built and tested it according to specification, extending their work to see how they could make it perform as expected under different 'environmental' conditions.
I thought this a great example of how ICT has been used to address higher order thinking skills in this way. If it were possible at all, it would take ages (and cost £££) to set this up as a non-ICT exercise, to allow pupils to build, adapt and test their models under constrained conditions.
