I downloaded moodle 2.02 to install on a system running Ubuntu 10.04 and Mythtv with mythweb and I was unalbe to run the installation program following the documentation carefully. I manually setup a new table and users in MYSQL but found no way to trigger an install process of moodle. I could not get the moodle site installed to run the installation program form the browser so i had to give up in frustration after several hours. An I though MythTv was a challenge! I also tried several command line scripts but all just downloaded files and never started installing anything.
Instead I when to package manager in Ubuntu and searched for Moodle and it found it gave me a means to download and install triggering a setup program where i got to set my users accounts for SQL etc and was able to start moodle - HOWEVER it was version 1.9.8 NOT the latest version. I want to begin in version 2.0.
I do not understand why Package Manager whould not download the latest version?
I now am trying to follow the cryptic upgrade instructions to move from 1.9.8 to 2.0.2 and I have copied the 2.0.2 files over the 1.9.8 files and I got to the magic Notifications link and nothing happens. The instruction is "Use the notification link in the site administration to start the upgrade process. You will see a series of lines or screens indicating progress." - really?
I select the link to the notifocations page and no upgrade starts and all I see is:
This links to a page with several purposes.
- Cron can be run from this page if it's not automated
- The site's Moodle version, copyright, acknowledgments and GNU license information can be found here
- If a new version of Moodle has been loaded, notification can begin the install process
- There is a Moodle registration request and link
But nothing is happening so I am stuck.
Can you advise what I can do to upgrade? I am not concerned with any existing content so losing data is not an issue as I want to start fresh with version 2+ and only got 1.9.8 inadvertently.
I would like to not break my MythTv and Mythweb setup if possible so I will take an image of my existing system in case Moodle nukes the lot.
