Hi I have a moodle site, part public facing and part internal.

Is it possible to assign a different roles to people signing up using a specific domain?  E.g.  people who sign up with joeblogs@mydomain.com become automatic students, any other email address is a guest?

The answer is no, but....

You don't make users guests or students when they sign up. "Student" only makes sense at the course level. For that you would need a custom enrolment plugin. It's really just a variation on the manual enrollment plugin so, although it would need a developer, it shouldn't be a massive job.

I have too many other development projects on to start deving moodle but it looks like I will have to find time.
