I would like to know how to access the menu and list items in Aardvark_pro. We are using Moodle 1.9 (I believe we have not gone to 2.0 since the HTML box does not look like this one I am now typing in.) I have a very long list of resources on my class site that I would very much like to tuck into the menu bar that appears at the top of the shell (just under the banner.jpg. When I right click on the Menu 1 item, I get a drop down list that included the usual suspects (open, open in a new tab, target, etc). The rest of Aardvark seems to work well with our class site. So far. Thank you
To customise the Aardvark Menu you need to first open the file where you make all the canges.
Using Notepad open the file named aardvark_menu.php in the aardvark theme folder.
You should see a list similar to this...
$text ='<li><a href="">Item One</a></li>';
$text .='<li><a href="">Item Two</a></li>';
$text .='<li><a href="">Item Three</a></li>';
$text .='<li><a href="">Item Four</a></li>';
$text .='<li><a href="">Item Five</a></li>';
$text .='<li><a href="">Item Six</a></li>';
$text .='<li><a href="">Item Seven</a></li>';
$text .='<li><a href="">Item Eight</a></li>';
Taking the top one, as an example to show you how to populate the menu, this is what you need to do...
URL => URL of the page you want to link to
MENU ITEM => the title of the page you want to link to
$text ='<li><a href="http://www.google.com">Search Google</a></li>';
Okey Dokey then, the only issue remaining is how do I navigate to the "theme' folder? Do I have to be an administrator or have our administrator do the changes for me or can I do that if I am just a "plain 'ol Moodle user". I have little code experience but I can follow directions meticulously if they are clear. Yours are extraordinary and I thank you for that.
My very best to you for all you do for us "babes in the Moodle woods". (Speaking only for myself since most of what I read here is a bit over my head).
"Up-over" in Bend, OR.
Sorry for overloading you with jargon. I assumed you where the Administrator, as this needs more than just a Moodle user to sort the menu out. It's one of those things where you will need access directly to the server where the files are stored.
The aardvark_menu.php is stored in the aardvark_pro folder on your server within the main Moodle directory. Only your Webmaster/Administrator will be able to get you a copy of this file so you can amend it, or someone else can amend it, before giving it back to the webmaster/administator to be uploaded to the server so that it can overwrite the existing menu. This might sound complicated but it isn't.
The path to the menu file in the Moodle Wood is as follows...
Give this to your Admin and I am sure they will fix it for you.
Hope this is not too befuddling...?
