Unfortunatley, I do not believe that to be the problem, as the edit toolbar is not showing up on this Mac on either Firefox or Safari.
Might the problem have something to do with the amount of people accessing the wiki? Half of the class reports being able to see the edit button and the other half has been having problems pretty consistently.
