Bulk Upload - Changing username

Bulk Upload - Changing username

In Moodle 1.9, is there anyway using Bulk Upload to change a user's name?

I can change other details (name, email etc), but even if I specify the numeric account id in the bulk upload form, it's using the username to match.

The reason for this is that we're moving from using manual authentication to LDAP authentication so we need to make the usernames match those applied in LDAP.

Unfortunately I don't have rights to upload SQL to the database directly so can't use that route - so it's either find a solution or manually change 800 accounts sad

This from upload user help seems to 'fit the bill'

Updating existing accounts

By default Moodle assumes that you will be creating new user accounts, and skips records where the username matches an existing account. However, if you allow updating, the existing user account will be updated.

When updating existing accounts you can change usernames as well. Set "Allow renames" to Yes and include in your file a field called oldusername.

Warning: any errors updating existing accounts can affect your users badly. Be careful when using the options to update.
