Hi 'N'
Seriously, I don't want , or intend ,to upset anyone in this wonderful forum!
Please don't think anything I might say comes from , as you remarked,'elitist assumptions'! Far from it! I care, passionately, that skills and knowledge that have been accumulated over the years ,by 'oldies' such as myself, should be passed on to the 'young guys' , as it has done for centuries, albeit ,in a different medium today! (read ,I mean not costing heaps!)
Stories, are the best way to pass on our history , and for us to learn from it !
Your course subject , hieroglyphics ,Egyptology, goes back to the crucible of our civilisation ! Fascinating subject, why do your students want to know about it ?
I remember at school, the saying "Latin is a language, as dead as dead can be, it killed the ancient Romans, and now its killing me ! I thought at the time that learning Latin was a waste of time! , but was it ? I think not, I can, even now ,understand words (I don't really know) from the Latin derivative , without really knowing why ?
History is so very important ,'INMHO ' , keep up your great work
