We have just completed an upgrade from 1.9 to moodle 2 - and in general very succesfully.
However, we have no option to have meta courses. The course edit screen does not display the "Is this a meta course" option, not for existing courses (meta or not) nor for new course creation.
Have we missed something in the upgrade?

Just to be certain though - there is no "Is this a meta course option" any longer, in moodle 2? Only I couldn't find any reference to that change anywhere.
The whole enrolment thing has changed really in Moodle 2.0 - so I guess the "meta" option has been tagged onto all the other ways of enrolling students (like with cohorts) into a course, rather than having special billing in the course settings. (just noticed there is a section in the docs on this http://docs.moodle.org/en/Metacourse#Metacourse_in_2.0 )

Mary, I have the plugin enrolment methids enabled but when I create a new course, the meta course option is missing completely. Are you sure it is available in Moodle 2?

Once your course is created, if you go to course admin>enrolment methods>and then choose "course metalink" when it is available with its eye open it then gives you the option as a drop down to choose from the various other courses available in your Moodle. Are you looking in that area?
Attached is a file showing the settings in Site Administration at the top and the bottom showing the possible settings in a Course Administration.
Now that IS strange I notice you do have five instances of metacourse links though -can you locate those instances and find out how they are different from the one you can't use that is shown here?
The table mdl_course_meta had crashed. Restoring it from Moodle.org had fixed the problem.

Could you please be a little more specific? When you say that you "restored" the table, you just created the mdl_course_meta table again with no data in it? Did you create the table before or after upgrading? Did you run a sql script to create the table?
Oh my, I just knew that I was going to learn something really useful today! In just two minutes too! Thank you Angela, this is going to help with some things I am sure. Certainly make a couple of things I have tried workable I think...

can you tell me where you managed to downlaod the new meta filter from Moodle.org, i cant seem to find this download. I'm having the same problems with the meta courses option not displaying even tho it is selected.
not sure how to fix this issue.

Is there any other option for adding child courses? The little dropdown menu gives a list of every course in our system. We have hundreds, if not thousands, of courses and there seems to be no specific order in which they are listed. There also seems to be no search feature for finding child courses, as there was in 1.9.
I agree that this is a backwards step. Please vote for this tracker issue.
