When using the adaptive mode when using matching questions, what do I set the penalty factor to so that it comes out even. For example, I have 10 matching items worth 2 points each. If a student gets 3 wrong then clicks submit, the score should be 14/20 with a penalty of 3 (7 correct =14 and miss three for minus 1 each). The student can then try to get the three he missed correct and click submit. If the student gets those three correct, the score should be 17/20. For the life of me I can't figure out what number should be in the penalty factor area to make this true no matter how many matching questions are right or wrong. I realize the penalty factor figure would depend on the number of matching items and the grade for it. Is there a scale develped anywhere? I'm using 1.9.8.
