I have several video files that I want to share between lesson activities in 4 different courses. Is there a place where files can be stored outside of a course so I only need to have one of each of these video files, or do I have to have a copy of each video in each different course if it is being accessed from within that course.

There are various workarounds. If your video is available on some server somewhere on the Internet, you might embed it in your Question text.
In Moodle 2.0 the new Files management system will anwer that question nicely, avoiding unnecessary duplication of resources.

Thanks very much for your help with this reply. I should have specified that I am trying to do this without locating the videos on an external server, so I'll be interested to see how the new Moodle 2.0 is able to do that.
