We are using Moodle version 1.9.8. We are using Sum of Gradesfor the grading method, which shows points and percentages. We have the setting as "show totals excluding hidden items" in grade total. Moodle is randomly hiding grade items. When we have a hidden item, it is skewing the scores badly. When the item is UNHIDDEN, the scores really drop. Today, I unhid ONE item of 70 points on a 2380 point course and one student's grade dropped from 72% to a 49%. All for ONE hidden item. This is a disaster for our students and our teachers and parents will lose trust in our program.
Here are the specifics. Maybe someone can help solve why this is happening. Joe is taking a course with a total of 2380 points with Sum of Grades as the Category & Course Total. In Categories and items, one 70 point item somehow gets hidden. Joe is showing a total of points as 1739.45 and a 73.09%, passing. One of the assignments is randomly hidden in Categories and Items. When discovered, we unhide it. The total points should go up 70 points, but it stays the same (2380). Joe made 46 points on this 70 point item, but when the item is unhidden, his total points actually DROP to 1127. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN???
Whey I manually add up the points, the 1127 is correct, not the 1739. So, in summary, ONE hidden item, when unhidden, made Joe go from 49% to 72% and his points go from 1739 to 1127. OBVIOUSLY, Moodle was not totally the gradebook correctly when it added up the 1739.
When I try to rehide the item, I cannot recreate the wrong grade. Why are items being randomly hidden? And more importantly, why would this skew the student's grade by giving way more points than he earned?
Please, someone help me with this problem. I am the Moodle Admin and everyone looks to me for answers. I have no explanation!
