1.06 beta Install - Could not set up site correctly

Setup goes ok until the site description page [no errors from database].  When the page is complete the URL ..../moodle/admin/site.php appears in the address bar together with a warning message on the screen that the site has not been set up.  The main page / log-in screen then appears which doesn't appear to allow any admin login-in.  It is still possible to register, etc.

I'm using the latest versions of MySQL and PHP on a Cobalt Raq3

URL - http://www.tutor-my-child.co.uk/moodle/

I previously got moodle 1.05 to work on another site on the same server with no problems...

Postscript 1

Managed somehow (not sure exactly) to get into the site as admin.

Seems to work okay but still gives out the odd 'you need to be admin to alter this page' when I use the config pages???
