Is Moodle 2 RC1 ready for full use?

We are currently piloting Moodle using V 1.9.9. This exercise should be over by the end of this year. If found to be good for our context, for actual use from Jan 2011, can we install Moodle 2 RC1?

Thanks in advance

Tom

Probably yes. By then it will hopefully be Moodle 2.0 final, or at least Moodle 2.0 RCN for some larger N.

Hi Tom. Moodle 2.0 (the final release) should be ready for you to use by then. However, make sure that you allow some time to upgrade and for people to find their way around after you switch. Quite a lot has changed (for the better) in Moodle 2.0 so unfortunately there will be some relearning to do for both teachers and students.

Also, when deciding whether or not to upgrade for actual use in early 2011 you should be aware that while the 1.9 versions of Moodle are very stable 1.9 isn't going to see much in the way of new features. Moodle 2.0 is where most of the new development is happening. By moving to 2.0 you have the opportunity to help determine what form this new development takes however 2.0 hasn't been field tested to the same degree as 1.9 so there may be a few little bumps along the way.
