We are running 1.8 and are now terrifed to upgrade to 1.9 in case that makes things even worse.
Students can no longer see Grades in their Administration panel. The option has simply vanished. We've been into the tables and made sure that student (role number 5) has moodle/grade:view set, but that hasn't made a difference.
Anyone have any ideas?
Do you mean that they do not see a link "Grades" in Administration block?
Or do you mean something else? What do the see once they click on Grades link?
1) Check Administration > Settings > Show grades should be set to Yes.
2) Administration > Grades > Set Preferences (you might have to switch to Show Advanced Features). Check that at least one of those is set to be shown to Everyone, and not only to the teachers: Display Weighted Grades, Display Points, or Display Percents
I have the same problem as Fiona, I have checked your points 1 and tried 2 but there is no Set Preferences option under Administration > Grades in the course, so I cannot check the Display Weighted Grades etc.
When the students go into their Grades area they get no information at all, they can switch between Overview report and User report but nothing can be seen in either view. They can go to Assignments and see their mark but they cannot get any of the feedback.
If 1.9, then what sub-version?
Note that before 1.9.8, if you would hide your course or category total, your grades inside those will become hidden from students.
So, please check whether you have any Grade columns, Course Total or any Categories hidden in the grade book (go to Categories and Items tab ad review closed eye icons).
Ah, OK we are on 1.9.9+
Had a look at the Catergories and Course Total and sure enough one was hidden, once that was open the students could see their grades.
Many thanks for the help. Chrissy
The students cannot see a 'Grades' link in the Administration block.
It seems we have no Administration > Settings >Show Grades option, or indeed an Administration > Grades option
Any idea how we get these to appear in the Administration area? Any idea why they aren't there?! I don't think we even have a 'Show Advanced Features' option.
Something has obviously gone very wrong during an upgrade or an install.
These are the only options we have in Administration:
Sorry, but I was talking about "Administration" block inside the course itself, not "Site Administration" for the admins.
Please check there for both things
p.s. Also, since you do have admin access, please check this in "Site Administration":
- Go to Users >Permissions > Define Role > Student. Make sure that 'View user grades' there is set to Allow.
- Go to Appearance > Gradebook> Make sure that Student role is checked there.
I checked in a few courses and all the grade settings are as they should be.
The student role is checked in Appearance > Gradebook.
The problem obviously lies with the permissions. Some options are missing from the Define Roles area. 'View user grades' is one of them. Some of the other options we have managed to restore by adding them in to the programming tables, but when our IT Manager tried to put the grade settings back, they showed up with double brackets surrounding them, so something is obviously missing somewhere:
I can only guess that you have developed some custom settings that prevent you from seeing everything, or that your upgrade last time did not go well, thus the best solution would be to reinstall.
Of course, please do not do it on production right away
I think you can ask in the Installation Problems forum.
(This does not seem to be related to the gradebook)
