As I am the Moodle Administrator for the school and need to crack on with our site and training really need a solution for this. Any help??
Have you tried using Firefox instead? Everything should work fine in that browser. Seems like you might want to do that since you on such a time crunch.
You should be uploading your images and attaching them with the image button not copying and pasting them in. Or, maybe I am misunderstanding you.
Can you add resources?
Yes, I can't hyperlink in the html editor, so can't insert images or links. This happened when IE8 first came out then there must have been a fix in XP, however it misy be a Windows 7 compatibility thing, brcasue I am able to complete all these functions on my old XP machine.
All the advice I've been given is to use FF but the same occurs there.
Does everything else work ok? Logging in and staying logged in, adding activities and other resources?
Can you turn the wysiwyg off <> and add content in as HTML? Does that save?
Hi Mary. We're on 1.9.9. everything works well on my old XP machine, and having done the diagnostics, I'm assuming there is some incompatibility between windows 7 and/or IE 8 and Moodle although you don't have that experience. Ummm...what a conundrum! Just one of many, many things that have gone wrong at the start of term, by switching the entire school to windows 7 and new virtualisation servers!
Thank you anyway for your support, I may just go back to my old machine!!
If it is affecting your new machine, it may be affecting all of your schools Windows 7 machines. Get your network admins on the case.
Best of Luck!
Eleanor, used new image for machine and now it works, clearly a corrupted image before.
Many thanks for your support!
The problem might as well be for example in some other application running at the same time and freezing on your Windows 7 - some non Windows 7 compatible program or some "free custom optimization utility" might have optimized Windows 7 too much etc
Try to search from www things like "Windows 7 hangs" or "Windows 7 freezes"...
It's been a shock for me too because I had no idea that the "bugs" were coming from IE8. I thought initially it was Moodle! I couldn't insert more than one hyperlink; I lost the Edit Pen on a Topic and had to find a "back door" through the URL to salvage things. I've had a terrible time pasting text from MS Word; and even after a "clean-up", fragments of HTML code would persist back in Student View.
I now use Firefox exclusively for designing; but one has to test both in IE8 and Google Chrome to be sure things can pass public inspection. Results can be quite inconsistent from one Browser to the next.
Although it seems "normal" to compose in WYSIWYG mode, I now realise the benefits of learning HTML and using the <> mode to view and edit the code itself. It's the code that is driving the effects anyway. It's not difficult to engage with HTML : check out http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp for a good education. Cheers PJ.
PS I think the world of Moodle and I love the global Moodle community.
