Using Moodle in an Elementary Classroom

Using Moodle in an Elementary Classroom

Hi everyone, I'm a first year elementary teacher who loves to implement technology. I've used Moodle in college and thought it was a great program that could be used in an elementary school setting. Yet, I believe that I would be the only person in my school using it. Would I need to have the school or the district put it on a server or could I run it individually and go from there?

Hi BJ,

Technically it's quite easy to do. Whether it would be permitted by your school and district, I don't know. You'll have to ask them. There are lots of ethical and security issues with online sites open to children.

Cheers,
Glenys

Ok. Let's say they allow me to use it but I can't put it on the server. Will I have to find my own server and web host? Could all of that be done on my home PC?

Hi BJ,

Yes, you will have to find a web host (that is, you can use your own PC as a server but have to be quite techie to know how to do that). If you do a search for "web hosts" you will find a number of discussions on this topic.

Cheers,
